There are several schemes at the moment listed on the Government web page that you can join for self certification (windows and doors etc).

It's worth checking out what each has to offer.

If I were you I would probably take some photos and print them out then take them down to a local Joiner (the type of person with woodwork machinery in a unit and advertises to make joinery items). Ask them for initial advice and take it from there.
