Walnut and maple picture frame - clear finish?

Postby Mike_5 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 8:05 am

Hi,

I'm looking to finish off my picture frame in a clear coat. I've seen on some clips that people talk about a clear coat lacquer, but all I seem to find are ones for cars. Do I just use a clear coat varnish?

Thanks

Use some Osmo polyx oil, a sample pot will be more than enough, will not make the maple yellow either ;) plus very easy to apply.

Thanks, I've had a look and there are a few options, but the Osmo Polyx oil natural transparent- raw, seems the appropriate definition of what I'm looking for. I would assume this suits under what you recommended? Never really finished off any woodwork besides in paint before! So this is all new territory to me.

Thanks

Actually, just going to pop to local supplier as they have Oslo Polyx Hardwax Oil clear satin Matt, description sounds good. I'll check this thread again before I open the product in case ;)

The above should be fine - I use it on virtually everything except for external woodwork!

Application of it, use a little as possible using lint free cloth wipe on till absorbed in direction of grain. When dry do the same again until several coats have built up to lustre you require. If you do put too much one wipe off excess with clean cloth, you'll soon get the hang of it, works great. ;)

All finished, wife and I are quite happy with my first picture frame.

Thanks for all the advice!
