Posting this so I don't have to keep looking at "Anybody know anything...." which has been on the front page since december!
So if I wanted to build a small trad wooden boat, as an absolute beginner, what would you recommend!
Ultimate aim is a 95m2 Skerry cruiser ;D well you never know!

I have the plans for building a 22' slipper launch , i thought i would start small and work my way up .

P.s do we know the owner of that boat ;D

They are actually plans for an 18' but you can scale it up to 22 . Cant see why you couldnt scale it down to whatever you wanted . They are actual build plans from selway fisher who designed and made the boat for a customer , they then sell the plans or copies of them after a few years . It has a cutting list with it aswell

Nah, not me! I used to do stuff like this, building and fitting them out with cherry furniture, white leather upholstery, corian galleys and heads etc: http://www.boatsforsalenow.com/SearchPow.....asp?RecNo=5171 iirc, this is the last one I worked on when it was built in Bristol by Admiral Marine.
Alternatively, I worked on this for about 4 years doing everything from planking, caulking, framing, hatchcombs, decks, yards, and made the tea:http://www.matthew.co.uk/ not quite as classy as a flybridge cruiser, but equally enjoyable to work on, so if I wanted a boat, i'd likely build my own. ;D

Of course, I gave all of this up to become 'an amateur' ::)

You can't just scale boat plans up or down significantly, you'll have to change the proportions. If you scale down you have to make the boat beamier, and vive versa going up. The freeboard changes less than the re-scaling would suggest, etc. Don't do it if you don't know what you're doing.

Yebbut be fair if you look in the boat section there`s only one page of threads, the last thread in the list is dated Oct 2007.
Not the most active section of the forum, I bet there`s more references to camel toe`s than there are boats. Perhaps we should have a new section
