My father and I bought this PT a few years ago and used it for a few jobs we had on. It has seen very little use since and, as I have tried to show in the pictures, is in fantastic condition. We purchased this item for a touch over £2000 (can't remember exactly) but, well aware of the depressing drop in price from new to second hand, and wanting a quick sale, I will take £1000. In the condition it's in at less that half what we paid I think this is a very fair price.
Coronet 3 Lathe: SOLD
Description: Introduced during the 1970s, the new range of twin-bar bed wood lathes was, at first, designated as the Models 1, 2 and 3. All of very similar contraction, the lathes were exceptionally well built and used only proper materials in their construction with cast-iron used for all the main castings and solid steels bars for the bed. Heavily built, the No. 3 had chrome-plated bed bars and was very much a top-of-the-range version, being much more capable in terms of capacity and work rate than the two smaller models. The 0.5 h.p. 1-phase, flange-mounted motor drove into the headstock by a smooth-running Poly-V belt and the whole assembly could be turned through 90 degrees to allow the installation of a bowl-turning rest. The latter unit was supplied complete with a replacement headstock-end bed foot, a long extension piece and allowed the turning of large-diameter workpieces."
This lathe is the longer bed (48") version. As you can see it comes with a custom built table with teak top. Under the table you can see the swing arm that attaches to the front of the machine for hollowing work. My dad rarely used this; he simply rotated the headstock (rotates 90 degrees) towards him, but I suspect it would be useful for those who focus mainly on bowl work.
There are a load of turning chisels included. A few of them are original coronet, one or two are made by Robert Sorby, but most are Marples. Most of these carry the crest Made In Sheffield. There are also quite a few accessories that included (see photos). Not being a turner I couldn’t tell you exactly what they do but a quick search shows that they are not cheap to buy new.
Also included in the sale are 4 books on woodturning, not pictured.
I am not a turner myself so am unsure on how much all this is worth. I am asking for £450 (now £300) which seems ok for such a solid machine with the teak table and accessories.
