4 post type thicknesser: Sorted now

I'm looking for a 4 post type thickness planer. These are usually US type machines
it must have

Fixed height infeed and outfeed tables with moving cutter head
Induction motor powered - No screaming brush motors please.

Typical machines are:
Delta/Rockwell DC/RC 33
Delta DC380

Hey Bob, if you are hunting around online it may be worth looking for a manufacturer called King as well. They are Canadian I think, but there seems to have been a fair few find their way on to the UK market. A friend had the 15" version they do, and it was a lovely machine, really solid and well made. It might already be on your radar, but thought I would mention it as they don't seem to be as well known as many other manufacturers, and as such when they come up for sale the price is pretty appealing.

Thanks Ben, I was not aware of that brand. It does seem like many designs, there are far eastern clones that get badged by several different outfits

I'll have a search for King planers.

I've just seen your machine on ebay and it is fixed head moving table which is not what I need anyway.
I specifically need static table and moving head which the Delta design provides.

The idea is that the infeed and out feed tables don't have to move as you adjust the thickness the same way as a lunch box planer does it.
I've just got sick of a screaming brush motor on my DW733 Lunch box. Euopean induction powered machines nearly always have fixed head / moving table
In my small shop, the planer is wheeled out to the end of the saw table which doubles as the outfeed and makes snipe on long pieces a thing of the past.

I collected the new machine last Sunday- needs a bit of work but nothing major so well pleased with my new toy. It is a Delta 380 - 15" inch cut , 3hp as in the photo at the top of the thread. Built like a brick outhouse- the manual advises a 4 man lift and having shifted it with two of us I tend to agree!

I bought the small delta after watching new yankee about 15 years ago
I wouldn't want it to work the other way up.

Quite agree! I have the 8" jet jointer bought as nearly new from someone getting out of woodwork reckoning he could do better as a tiler with no premises to payout for.
A great machine that stays spot on time after time. Sadly no longer made for some reason.
