Another rendering

Postby thedesignman » Thu Mar 14, 2013 4:30 pm

This thread could get really interesting.
I've been using Sketchup for several years now because of its simplicity and accuracy. None of my customers have ever mentioned that they wished they could see the presented drawings as rendered images, hence I have never gone down that road. I've thought about it often enough but sadly it only becomes another learning curve which means time and wives/girlfriends always complain if you spend too long sat at the computer.
There are thousands of examples of rendered images scattered all over the net and perhaps in the not too distant future, we will all be presenting our 3D work to clients this way.
Below is a picture or rendering I came across on the SU forum some months ago. For me this is what can be termed "quality" and makes superb presentation material for the client, if of course you have mastered the art of SU or any other bolt-on software to do the rendering.
The credit for the picture is not mine, its just one I was so impressed with. The use of shadows and the reflection in the wall mirror makes this a superb render in my opinion. I've shown this picture to four customers who thought it was a photo of work I had actually done. They were extremely impressed when they learned it was a rendered image.
For the time being I'll stick with the standard 3D hidden line presentation method. I'd rather go sailing than have another steep learning curve to master.

Welcome to the forum thedesignman! Perhaps you could post up a couple of examples of the sort of image you present to clients. As Jason said in a previous thread, I could make and fit the lockers and coat racks before I came anywhere near producing something like that drawing and without anywhere near the amount of stress and frustration!

Thanks for the welcome Steve.

This is just a small sample which has lost some clarity in the size reduction. An awkward room due to its small size so walls in some cases have to be see-through.
The client could see instantly what he was getting, loved the layout and the job was installed three weeks ago.
Drawing took just under an hour. The clothing you see is held on another drawing and originates from the Sketchup 3D warehouse online. Once you have it its easy to move around between drawings.

The next step i need to master is adding measurements to my drawings . Its probably already been shown to me but as you say , learning something new in your spare time tends to take over from the things you should be doing :D
Welcome to the forum by the way .
