Multipoint locking for timber windows

Postby Louis1984 » Tue Feb 02, 2016 7:18 am

Has anyone got any experience of fitting a multi point locking system or shoot bolt system to traditional flush fit timber window sash's. My sash dimensions are approx 50mm w x 55mm deep. Rebates are 15 x 40.

The old Euro system was 58mm, I've seen it in 48mm, so should be doable .
I would ring these http://www.vbhgb.com/l1/vbh/GB/fixedNav ... index.html
ask to speak to Paul in technical, he has more technical knowledge than the manufacturers...

Most espags are mushroom style and dont work well with flush windows.

One of the best to try is the finger espag available from quest hardware. The fingers retract flush when the sash is opened.

However I think it is about 36mm deep overall and you only have 35mm.

I have convinced them to go traditional.

A ridiculous faff!

If burglar bill nips in through the window when your all tucked up, and goes off with your stash of cash, you'll wish you had them multi point espags ... :D

If a burglar first even manages to get in through my window he shall set off my alarm which telephones various people instantly, be caught on 3 cctv cameras, be mauled to death and the discover there's no cash.

Regardless, those espags ain't gonna fit a 50/55 mm wide stile! And that's the important part for the customer!

To be honest I don't know of any multi points that would have worked in a traditional casement window anyway. I fit them in flush casements all the time, but only modern high performance types, with a traditional drip groove profile there just isn't the clearance. My thought has always been if a burglar is willing to break the locks on a window to get in, hes just as willing to break the glass,
