Advice needed. Im looking at using a self employed joiner for a few weeks to give me a hand in my workshop.young lad, served his time at the bench and on site. Has just gone self employed. Just wanted advice about pitfalks, contracts? Insurance. I was hoing to get him to sign some sort of " if anything happens to you its ur own fault" type contract? Any advice would be grately appreciated. Thanks.

There are payroll companies that can deal with this sort of thin for you. They set up a contract between you and the worker as if your worker is employed by them and subsequently then sub-contracted to you by them. They charge a small fee for each payment you make to your worker (£15 or so). The idea is sold to you as if that you are taken out of the equation. In reality you are still liable. If you use an agency, they will set up a contracts between the worker, you and them using one of these companies.
