Joining MDFs together

Hi all!

I am new to woodworks, and would really appreciate some help and advice. I would like to join MDF boards together (12mm x 1220mm x 2440mm), but I'm not sure what screws/connectors to use. There will be a design on each of them so they would have to be connected side by side. I have read that MDFs split really easily so I'm not sure what's the best way to join them together.

I was thinking of attaching small pieces across the two boards and then using screws to secure the connecting piece in place, will that work? Hope it makes sense!
