Slot Morticer

Hi all I am building a slot mortiser,morticer,the 3 axis table is sorted and a trial with a router is acceptable, however I am wondering if anyone has used 2 flute End mills instead of router cutters,also do ER collets fit into a router as they give a wide range of mill sizes for much less money,failing that can collets be got in a range of sizes for an 8 m router, (trend t5),Cheers
