What is the brain-trusts preferred method for spray finishing a c*ck beaded detail (kitchen face frames etc) without using a pump... Just a standard gravity fed spray gun?

Getting paint into the negative detail is a swine!

I just use my normal gravity gun, never given me any real problems.

I'm sure it's possible... just wondering what to do with the 'settings'.

Am I right in thinking turn fluid and air down as much as possible? I've tried but it just doesn't seem to get in the nooks n' crannies!

I've never had a problem either. I've always found the finish flows over any cockbeading or other mouldings as you pass with the centre of spray fan aimed perpendicular to the background wood. Fan width and fluid volume are set as per normal for finishing larger surfaces. There shouldn't be a need to reduce the fan width or volume of fluid exiting the tip if this is your approach. I presume you're doing the narrow edges first with the air cap tip aimed slightly downwards to them, about 20º or 30º, then coming back to do the wider, flatter surfaces, including the cockbead. It's hard to puzzle out what you're having trouble with I must admit. Slainte.

i spray about 70 degrees into either side of the groove just to get into the edges with a light spray (trigger not pulled fully) then coat everything else as normal.
