Evening all!
Just joined up after getting back into wood during my midlife crisis (could've been a lot worse I suppose!)
Did 10 years as a wood machinist then took a complete change of career but bought myself a lathe recently and had a go at knocking out a few bits and pieces.
I'm based in Cwmbran, S Wales, anyone local??

what a coincidence, I was born in SA, in Durban.
Just managed to get myself a pile of ash, oak and hawthorn logs from a landscaping co near me who have just cut them down. I know the guy and have secured an endless supply of green wood by the looks.
Now what shall I make first? Hmmmm

Jaco, no I left when I was two so can't even remember it. Went back to SA a few years ago to visit family.

Hi all,
just saying quick hello, just signed up to this super looking forum. Seems really friendly and informative.
I have been involved with woodturning for ages, drifted off it for a while a few years back as i got a little disheartened (a big job where i had to make 50 wooden plates for a pub, all exacly the same, took the fun out of it and broke me in the process!), also a slight obsession with old tools took over for a while.
Now getting back into the woodturning though.

Hello there
I have only been involved in any type of woodworking for a couple of years and must admit to never having used a powered lathe images/icons/smile/redface.gif However i built myself a pole lathe a few months ago and really enjoy it. Its a great tool for demos and the people that are using it ( adults with learning disabilities ). However my legs are beginning to ache and greenwood is difficult to get where we are, so my colleague are looking to invest in a small lathe and to pick peoples brains

Ive got one of the earlier yellow axminster lathes(the wee one) and the extension. For me it does the wee turning I might need for handles and the like. Just got a chuckm though I fear its too heavy duty(RP Supernova2)

I post in here as im interested in using some of my offcuts for turning pens. Ive some offcuts of a freakinsh bubinga I think would look amazing as a pen.

So here I am
