Coffee table

Hi guys,

I'd appreciate any feedback on a little coffee table I've just built,
I've added a couple of pics.

Basically I can't decide now I've built it if I like it or not! Something just doesn't seem quite right to my eye, maybe the legs? I'm thinking of making some wooden legs instead now.

The table is constructed from 2 planks of solid Iroko 50mm thick, finished in Osmo oil and has steel hairpin legs.

I am not sure if I like it either Is it because the top and the legs are are contradicting each other? The top has straight lines but the bottom of the legs are curved, also the top is chunky opposed to the legs which are thin. Maybe round off the corners off the top

It reminds of when I went to the national gallery in London and looked at van gogh sunflowers, I couldn't make my mind up if I liked that either.

I'd say the top is to thick for the legs , for my taste.
Maybe taper the bottom edges to make it appear thinner ?
I like the over all design though

Yes! Exactly what I was thinking, the top is too heavy and too square to go with these legs!
My plan will be now to make some matching iroko chunkier legs and use these hairpin legs on another project!

In my head this was going to work perfectly! Oh well you live and learn constantly in woodworking

It would probably help if the legs moved out to the corners if that's possible.

Imo top is too thick for legs as mentioned above, but I like the idea of the legs btw

That was my first thought as well. As others have said, the top does look, and obviously is, heavy. Maybe chamfer the underside to give the impression that it is thinner.

Right attached are some modifications I have done today, I've taken the steel hairpin legs off and donated them to another table top I have been working on, which I'm really happy with , this one's from reclaimed mahogany pier decking boards (from the old west pier in Brighton that burnt down)
And then I've made up some more modern looking iroko matching legs for the original table.

I'm really happy with the results now as I think the legs match a lot nicer to their respective tables

I like the metal legs I think they look really smart.
