This might be a daft question, but here goes............
I can't see how to up-load photos on this site and the help files don't seem to mention it.
Can anyone put me straight...... bearing in mind I'm an old fashioned woodworker, not Bill Gates, so go easy with the jargon!

You need to host them somewhere and then upload them from there. I find Photobucket very good and quite straight forward and it's free http://photobucket.com/?link=topmenu

Hey argus,
which bit specifically are you having problems with?
If you get chance then give me a bit more info of the step that you are
not able to complete and I will expand! (PM if you prefer!)

It's all explained beautifully.
I said, I ain't Bill Gates and I would never have worked that out for myself.
You've got money in the bank at Argus Acres.

Hey - its works! FWIW, I use Picasa as my picture host, one advantage being that you can upload full size pictures and then select the size of the picture you want to insert into the thread without having to reduce the size of each picture manually first.
Method is as follows :
1. Select "reply" on post where the photo is to be inserted.
2. Click on the picture tag ( 4th from left on the 2nd row of "Add Tags"). This brings up the tags.
3. In your picasa album click on the photo you want to upload.
4. On the R/H side, click "Link to this photo". Then select the size of the picture. The one above is medium 400px
5. In the "HTML to embed in website" window copy all the text and paste it between the [img] tags. This includes 2 addresses - one picasaweb and one google as follows :
This info includes the size of the photo so that's why you have to select the size first.
6. Delete the picasaweb address and all text outside the "" as follows :
http://lh6.google.com/xyzrdmzyx/R4T-qxui....table%20003.jpg
7. A quick "preview" to check for errors and you're done. Of course you could just copy and paste the "google address" but I find it easier to copy and paste the whole lot and delete the extra stuff.
HTH.

When you look at your pic in Flickr there are two boxes of code. One is headed '1. Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage:' and has a large amount of code. The second says '2. Grab the photo's URL:' and has a short piece of code that looks something like this:
Code: Select all
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3104/3194627275_a7f6087934_m.jpgIn order to insert the picture into your post, click the Img tag which will give you this:
Code: Select all
[img][/img]then insert your piece of code like this:
Code: Select all
[img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3104/3194627275_a7f6087934_m.jpg[/img]and what you will get is this:
(It's some bamboo scaffolding by the way.)
If you want to get really clever you can display a small picture which can be clicked to display a large picture. To do this you would do:
Code: Select all
[url = link to large picture][img]link to small picture[/img][/url]where link to large picture is the link from Flickr's large picture page.
and link to small picture is the link from Flickr's small picture page, just as in the first example.
So for my example I would do:
Code: Select all
[URL=http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3104/3194627275_a7f6087934_b.jpg][img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3104/3194627275_a7f6087934_m.jpg[/img][/URL]which results in this (click to see):
Hope this helps - if any part is unclear I'll be back later and will amend to suit. In fact, I could do some screenshots to help.
cheers
Dave
Re: Posting pictures
How do you prevent your pics being cropped at the right? I don't know how to make smaller in photobucket or if poss? Any help would be gratefully received.

Re: Posting pictures
you need to set the size in photobucket
for example
if you click on the "from web url"
under the big blue upload button you will see options
click on this and set the size

Re: Posting pictures
You just need to put the picture link code http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7071/7273 ... fc40_m.jpg between these two image codes [img]-[/img]

Re: Posting pictures
Guys ,I'm in my flickr album ,click on a photo, then copy and paste the picture link thats in the url window between the two img codes Doug mentions but its still not working. What am I still doing wrong?........On the flickr page there is an "actions" tab where you can share ,grab link etc should I be pasting the link from there?.. I don't have any problems posting links from the album to other websites.
